                                                                           Van Steenbergen's First World Championship  
                              
              The 1949 World Championship Road Race was held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The 290 km race course featured 33 laps of a 8.787 km circuit.  
              The 35 rider start list included the top stars of the times. Belgian Rik Van Steenbergen sprinted to the victory in front of Ferdi Kubler and Fausto Coppi.
